After many weeks of discussions, development, reiterating and nailing almost everything down, we finally brought our upcoming game, Private Eyes (previously known as Detective Doodle and Once Upon A Doodle…), to the Mass DiGI Game Challenge.

For those unaware, the Mass DiGI Game Challenge is a game pitching competition where students and indies duel it out to see who has the best pitch for their game. We enter the Mass DiGI Game Challenge every year, and even won it our first time we entered in 2013 with Wobbles! The competition is split up into various categories, Alpha & Beta. Every team that pitches gets rounds of mentoring by game industry pros on the first day and pitches to judges on the second day. Those who advance to the finals pitch to the entire room and all of the judges.

Just a snippet of our pitch deck, showing off the gameplay slide.

The game we pitched, Private Eyes, is a murder mystery party game that brings the fun of trust and betrayal to your living room. Upon first look, many people think of it to be a live-action Clue game, or something similar to Werewolf or various GMod mods like Murder and Trouble and Terrorist Town.

What makes the gameplay of Private Eyes unique the fact that everyone has their own private screen on their mobile device, but the main game itself is played on a console where it shows a overall map of a house, and where everyone is. The entire mobile component of the game gives everyone the opportunity to be sneaky and private about their actions, so long they do not get caught on the main screen.

At the Mass DiGI Game Challenge, we pitched this game and nailed it. We made it to the finals of the “College Alpha” category, and won over the judges and took the prize home for that category in finals!

Our prizes for winning the pitch competition are really awesome. Beyond a cash prize and trophy, we also won a wonderful mentorship package and legal services, both of which will be extremely valuable as we move forward with the project.

Currently, we aren’t announcing which platform or platforms we are targeting for this game, but we can say it is something entirely different from what we’ve done before, and we’re very excited about it.

Work on Private Eyes!

Because the project is quite ambitious we’re looking for additional help to make it. If you want to be involved in a unique console experience, then you should check out the listings below. Seriously, we can’t build this game alone!

Who We’re Looking For

We’re primarily looking for people in the Massachusetts area (Boston, Worcester, etc.) that can help us part-time putting this game together! Contact us if you think you’re a fit for any of these positions.

  • 3D Modelers
    • Animators would be awesome too!
  • 2D Artists
    • Textures, concepts and all that cool stuff.
  • Programmers
    • Unity 3D experience required.
    • Networking experience is highly preferred!

Quick update: These are our high priorities right now, if something you do is not listed, just contact us anyways. We’d love to hear from everyone!

Talk Soon!

That’s all for now… Seriously. We’re exhausted, even a whole day after the Game Challenge. We plan to have a lot more to share about the game in the coming weeks, but we have a lot of work to do.

Oh, before we go, if you want to stay up to date with everything to do with Play Nimbus and Private Eyes, sign up for our fan club below, and follow Play Nimbus and Private Eyes on Twitter!
